GQ South Africa Men Of The Year 2020
So I have been following this property from British GQ, and it could be the most prestigious award someone can receive. Past winners international winners have included Tommy Hilfiger, Ozzy Osbourne, Sir Ian McKellen, David Beckham, Chadwick Bosman to name but a few. Now, although GQ has the Best Dressed Awards - this celebration is of people that have made a cultural impact on society. The eclectic mix of people is made of tastemakers, icons, superstars, and more. This is the second year the monthly glossy is celebrating the awards.
The event, in collaboration with Hennessy V.S.O.P. Privilège and proud partners, BOSS Parfums and Lexus, was held this weekend at the new Hotel Sky in Sandton Johannesburg. The host, Expresso Morning Show Presenter, Thabiso Makhubela helped give out awards, alongside GQ Editor Molife Kumona.
You can watch the GQ Men Of The Year Awards above.
Recipients included:
Entertainer of the Year: Elsa Majimbo
Musician of the Year: Master KG
Humanitarian of the Year: Ladles of Love
Man of Today: Kabelo Mabalane
Man of Today: Peteni Kuzwayo
Editor’s Award: Dr Esther Mahlangu
Designer of the Year: Thebe Magugu
Woman of the Year: Bonang Matheba
Innovator of the Year: Ahren Posthumus
Activist of the Year: The ManKind Project
What I love the most is; even though the ceremony is named “Men Of Year” it is great to see powerful women such as Esther Mahlangu and Bonang Matheba, receiving awards. Furthermore, I think there are too many awards shows that focus on superficial aspects - where I think awards should be given to those that are truly making our world a better place and doing significant change for a better tomorrow.
