The Must Moët Moment!
As everyone knows, I was in Cape Town recently and my trip happened to coincide to with the Moët & Chandon Golden Tree Lighting Ceremony, which I made mention of on my socials. This is an event that will be in my calendar permanently every year. There are a few things that ring in the festive season: Thanksgiving (or as I celebrate Friendsgiving), Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Lattes, Victoria Secret Fashion Show (R.I.P), Mariah Carey “All I Want For Christmas” playing everywhere and Moët Golden Tree Lighting Ceremony in Cape Town is definitely one of them.
Led by the Cape Town Youth Choir in song, everyone surrounded the Moët Golden Tree, made up of 2000 recycled bottles of Moët & Chandon. That is a lot of Moët Moments, if you ask me. Upon arrival, I was ushered into the invited guest section, where I bumped into old friends Seth Shezi, Dr. Sivu and Piet Smedy, whom I managed to grab a selfie with. Not forgetting Cape Talk’s incomparable Refilwe Moloto who was standing with Academy Award winning Terry Pheto. Terry’s new blonde bob is everything, by the way! You don’t get any bigger Beyoncé fans than us, the holy trilogy of the BeyHive. E!’s Kat Sinivasan told us to gather round with our champagne coupes to start the lighting. Introduced by Pascal Asin, Moët Hennessy Managing Director for Africa & Middle East, he joked that being French he was happy that South Africa won the World Cup against The English. Speaking of which, Springboks Captain Siya Kolisi helped ring the buzzer alongside cutie and queen of “Own Your Throne” Boity Thulo. Springbok Prop (I googled that!) Steven Kitshoff and his beautiful wife Aimee were also in attendance who I spent majority of the night chatting up a storm with, post our World Cup win. Honestly such lovely human beings. Now let me tell you, the voices from opera singers Given Nkosi and Magdalene Minnaar, as the tower of bottles lit up, was truly one of the most spectacular Moët Moments I have ever witnessed. A stunning light show that rivals New York’s Rockafeller Tree Lighting. Goose bumps! And then once the Silo District was twinkling with sparklers from everyone, it was party time! Siya Kolisi took time to greet his fellow South Africans, taking selfies throughout the night. At one point in the night, the most gorgeous woman stopped traffic at the Moët Instagrammable Installation and I had to know who she was. She told me that she was an invite guest by nightclub Coco, Monifah Jansen, Miss Curacao Universe 2011 - who proceed to invite me to the club as she was hosting that night.
The party was truly magical and really well put together. You will definitely see me popping into Cape Town every year to ring in the festivities. Good luck to the team, trying to top this one!
The Moët Golden Tree will be situated in the Silo District until 6th January 2020. #MoetMomentsCT
