HBO Max "Legendary"

One thing I regret the most, that I didn’t get to do on one of my trips to New York City, was attend a Ball. The closest I got was meeting Billy Porter at a pool party! If you’ve watched the iconic doccie-film “Paris Is Burning”, then you’ll understand the underground ballroom community. A gathering of LGBT+ people, battling it out on the runway to their categories, to garner trophies for their houses. Traditionally this began as a saving grace for queer youth that were ostracised and shunned from family or society finding solace with this community. Be it, voguing, eleganza, butch queen, femme queen this kiki brings all to the yard.

Hot off the glitter heels of the FOX turned Netflix hit show “Pose”, comes a new series, “Legendary” to a new network HBO Max. And honey, I am living for it! This reality show sees 8 houses, compete over 9 balls to win the ultimate prize of $100 000. The celebrity judges include Law Roach, Jameela Jamil, Leiomy Maldonado, and wait for it…, Miss Savage herself: Megan Thee Stallion.

The one to watch out for is Michell’e (Miss Shalae) - she does the best Beyoncé performances EVER!!! And if you know me, I am super strict when I mention Beyoncé tribute artists, but she slays it. Watch one her performances below.

I can’t tell you how happy I am that this form of expression and community is coming to the forefront and to main stream TV. Queer kids being represented, in a big way. Unfortunetely, HBO Max is not available here in South Africa, (Thank God I have an US iTunes Account), but hopefully Showmax will pick it up.
